Live Streaming + Timed Offers

This tactic pairs a live stream with an offer that is only valid during the broadcast. It works like a shopping channel: viewers watch a demo in real time while an exclusive deal is open. Live video adds urgency (it is happening now), scarcity (the offer ends with the stream), and social proof (viewers see others buying in the comments).

How it works

Live video holds attention in two ways. Viewers know that if they leave, they miss the content and the offer. And the host builds rapport by answering questions and reacting to comments, which recorded video can’t do. A time-limited offer compresses the whole buying decision into one session.

How to do it

  1. Pick a format: product demo, Q&A, behind the scenes, expert interview, or live tutorial.
  2. Design a genuinely exclusive offer: a code valid only during the live, a limited bundle, early access, or a bonus for live buyers.
  3. Promote the live 3 to 5 days ahead with countdown stories, feed posts, email, and SMS to engaged segments. Ask people to set a platform reminder where one exists.
  4. Open the stream by stating today’s offer.
  5. Spend the first 10 to 15 minutes demonstrating the product and answering questions.
  6. Around minute 15 to 20, give the full offer and one clear call to action, such as a pinned link or “comment DEAL for the link.”
  7. Around minute 30, remind viewers of the deadline or remaining stock. Close with a final call to action.
  8. Throughout, read comments aloud, greet viewers by name, and run polls.
  9. Afterward, send the replay to attendees who didn’t buy, optionally with a smaller offer for 24 hours.
  10. Cut highlight clips for later posts and build a retargeting audience from viewers.

What to measure

  • Live conversion rate: divide purchases made during or shortly after the stream by unique viewers.
  • Concurrent viewers and watch time: record peak and average concurrent viewers and average watch time from platform analytics.
  • Revenue per session: sum revenue from the live code or link during the stream and the following 24 hours.

Best practices

  • Use a host who is comfortable on camera and can handle live comments.
  • Show the product working rather than describing it.
  • Pin the link or code and repeat it every 5 to 7 minutes for people who join late.

Common pitfalls

  • No advance promotion. Followers don’t watch for lives on their own, so attendance stays low.
  • Offering the same deal after the stream. If it’s on the website tomorrow, the urgency is fake and people stop showing up.
  • Running too long. Keep most streams to 30 to 60 minutes. Longer streams lose viewers and urgency.
