Whitelisted UGC Ads
Whitelisting means running paid ads through a creator’s account instead of your brand’s. The ad shows the creator’s name and profile photo, but you control targeting, budget, and optimization. Meta now calls this partnership ads. On TikTok, the equivalent is Spark Ads.
How it works
A creator gives your brand permission to advertise with their content. You can then run their post, or a video they make for you, to audiences well beyond their followers.
The ad carries the creator’s identity and voice. You keep control of targeting, spend, and measurement. Many people scroll past polished brand ads but stop for a person they recognize or a post that looks native to the feed.
How to do it
- Find creators whose audience matches your customer, not just those with the most followers.
- Consider smaller creators in your niche. Their audiences are often more engaged.
- Write a brief with the hook angle, key points, what to show about the product, and the call to action.
- Let creators deliver it in their own voice. Do not over-script.
- Ask for a strong hook in the first 1-2 seconds and a clear problem-to-solution story.
- Set up permissions. On Meta, the creator approves your brand as a partner for partnership ads, then you build the ad from their post. On TikTok, the creator generates a Spark Ads authorization code and you enter it in Ads Manager.
- Send creators a short step-by-step guide for each platform.
- Run the ad in your normal campaign structure and targeting.
- Test several creator videos against each other and against your brand-account ads.
- Sign a written agreement covering how long you can use the content, which platforms, whether you can edit it, and payment.
- Track rights end dates. Renew or pull ads before they expire.
What to measure
- Hook rate: 3-second video views divided by impressions.
- CPA, creator vs. brand: cost per acquisition for creator ads compared to brand-account ads in the same campaign.
- Fatigue timeline: days or impressions until an ad’s CPA starts rising.
Best practices
- Test multiple creators for the same product and let results pick the winner.
- Negotiate paid usage rights separately from organic posting. Expect to pay more for paid usage.
- Ask for raw footage so you can cut extra versions with different hooks, lengths, and calls to action.
- Keep a steady pipeline of new creator content so you can rotate ads.
Common pitfalls
- Choosing creators by follower count instead of audience fit.
- Over-polishing the content. Branded intros, logos, and studio edits make it look like any other ad.
- Running ads after usage rights expire. Set alerts a week before each end date.
