Nextdoor Ads
Nextdoor is a neighborhood social network where residents ask for contractor tips, share local events, and review local businesses. For a local business, the audience is close by and often looking for a recommendation. That makes it different from Meta or Google.
How it works
Nextdoor’s feed is local by design. People go there to talk about their neighborhood. When someone asks “who is a good plumber nearby?”, a business that shows up in that context meets a buyer with intent. Nextdoor offers a free business page, the chance to be recommended by neighbors, and paid ads targeted by area.
How to do it
- Claim your free Nextdoor business page. Add photos, services, hours, and contact details.
- Build organic standing first. Answer recommendation requests in your area with useful advice, and ask happy customers to recommend you.
- Launch a paid campaign targeted to the neighborhoods you serve, with a specific local offer.
- Test a few creative angles: a seasonal offer, a new service, or a “now serving your area” message.
- Read and answer comments on your ads. Neighbors’ replies become public proof, good or bad.
What to measure
- Offer claims: residents who claim or redeem your offer, tracked with a unique code.
- Recommendations: number of neighbor recommendations on your business page.
- Cost per new customer: Nextdoor spend divided by customers attributed to it, compared with your other local channels.
Best practices
- Lead with a specific local offer, for example “Free gutter check for Maple Heights residents.”
- Name the neighborhood in the copy when you can.
- Build recommendations before you scale spend. People check your page before they respond.
Common pitfalls
- Reusing ad copy from other platforms. Nextdoor responds to a neighborly, helpful tone.
- Ignoring negative comments on your ads.
- Targeting too wide an area. Stick to the neighborhoods you actually serve.
