Shop-the-Look Modules
A shop-the-look module shows a complete outfit, room, or product combination with clickable tags, so customers can add single items or the whole look to the cart. Seeing products used together helps people picture them in their own life, and they tend to buy more than one item.
How it works
A single product photo shows one item on its own. A styled look shows how that item fits into an outfit, a room, or a table setting. This helps two kinds of shoppers: people browsing without a specific item in mind, and people who came for one item and find related pieces. The module does the styling, which makes choosing easier.
How to do it
- Shoot photos or video of products in complete settings: styled outfits for apparel, full rooms for home goods, set tables for food. Feature 3 to 6 products per look.
- Add clickable hotspots on the image or a product strip below it listing every item.
- Add a “Shop the full look” button next to individual add-to-cart buttons.
- Place looks on the homepage, on product pages (showing the current product styled), on category pages, and in a dedicated lookbook section.
- Add customer and creator photos tagged with product links alongside your own shoots.
- Track clicks, add-to-carts, and revenue per look. Make more looks around the combinations that sell, and retire the ones that do not.
What to measure
- Units per transaction: items per order for shoppers who used a look module vs. those who did not.
- Look engagement rate: visitors who click or tap a look module divided by visitors who saw it.
- Multi-item add rate: look interactions that add two or more items from the same look, divided by all look interactions.
Best practices
- Mix price points in each look so more shoppers can afford some of it.
- Show the same product in several looks to show how versatile it is.
- Refresh looks each season so the content does not go stale.
- Test short styling videos alongside still images.
Common pitfalls
- Images with no product links. Every item shown should be identifiable and buyable.
- Out-of-stock items in a look. Flag or swap them automatically.
- Only styling the most expensive products. Include looks your core customers can afford.
