UGC & Review Widgets
UGC (user-generated content) and review widgets put real customer content on your site: star ratings, written reviews, photos, videos, and social posts. It is word of mouth shown at the point of purchase. Customer photos add proof that text alone cannot.
How it works
Shoppers trust other shoppers more than they trust brands. Reviews answer the question every buyer has: “Did this work for someone like me?” The product page is where that question matters most, so that is where reviews belong.
How to do it
- Choose a review platform (for example Yotpo, Judge.me, Stamped, Trustpilot, or Bazaarvoice).
- Send review requests automatically one to two weeks after delivery.
- Offer a small reward, such as loyalty points, for photo and video reviews. Follow platform and legal rules on incentivized reviews.
- Show the average rating and review count next to the product title.
- Show star ratings under each product on category pages.
- Add Review structured data (Schema.org) so ratings can appear in search results.
- Add filters to the review section: by rating, by topic (fit, quality, shipping), and by reviews with photos.
- Add a gallery of customer social posts, with permission.
- If you sell on several channels, use a platform that shares reviews across them.
What to measure
- Review coverage: Share of active products with at least five reviews.
- Conversion rate with vs. without reviews: A/B test or compare product pages with and without the review widget.
- Review rate: Share of buyers who leave a review after being asked.
Best practices
- Show negative reviews too. A product with only 5-star reviews looks fake.
- Reply to negative reviews publicly, briefly, and helpfully.
- Give customer photos their own section on the product page. Real lighting and real homes are convincing.
Common pitfalls
- Deleting or hiding negative reviews. Customers notice, and it costs more trust than the review would have.
- Waiting for reviews to arrive on their own. Unhappy customers review unprompted; happy ones need a reminder.
- Loading a heavy widget that slows the page. Lazy-load the review section.
